The tree (sold)

Dear Tree

A belated happy birthday. Another year has floated by. Yesterday was Tu Bishvat (a day we celebrate birthday to our nature and trees) We all get older, no big deal.

You know… Every morning I watch you from afar. I watch the sunrise with you, when everyone is still rolling in their bed one last time. You don’t know this, but you are my nude model, my inspiration for all the trees I create in my works. You have a powerful presence. You are old, but great looking. Standing there by yourself between two villages, you have seen so much.

There used to be dunes and swamps here, Camels, and horses with wagons, pioneers with a vision, Arab villages. Living as neighbors peacefully.

Then you saw the British soldiers… The battle to free our village… you have seen sadness, then revival. Fields were plowed and sewn at your foot, villages grew around you. The small country road by your side became a highway… The sounds of traffic probably disturb your peace sometimes.

But you are always there, swaying softly in the strong wind, so firm, and securely planted in the ground.

We have much to learn from you. To be flexible, to let the storms pass above our heads, to be quiet sometimes, to live modestly, and to fortify ourselves, like you, from our roots in the ground.

Come on, say something… I have passed you by thousands of times, and never stopped to say…

Thank You.
